Science, Labs and Mall
Red and Green Science
Now that a fledgling bus is set up it is time to automate science and build the mall for Nauvis. The science city block will be used to generate red, green, military and blue science, but for now it’s just a belt of red and green science that will be sent north to the labs. At the very bottom of the city block 12 assemblers are set up for green and 10 for red, as well as the supporting assemblers: gears, inserters, and belts. Inputs are iron plates, green circuits, and half a belt of copper plates.

Laboratories
The city block for laboratories will later hold the rocket launch pad, so 14 labs are set up to the far right for consuming science, eventually there will be a second belt for military and blue science.

Mall
The mall is a concept in Factorio where you build everything that the engineer will need for building out the factory. This blueprint is amazing in that it fits in the 50x50 block and leverages a constant combinator and arithmatic combiner to control all of the assemblers, so you can set how many of each item you want to produce in one place. Later when robot logistics and storage chests are researched, it’s a small effort to move the system over to a roboport to read the logistics network instead of the steel chests’ contents. Needless to say, I cannot explain the entire blueprint so you need to subscribe to Nilaus if you want it, or replicate it the best you can with an original blueprint.

Steam Power
Once that blueprint is slapped down, which is no easy effort, it time to check your power and pollution. You’ll likely need to add a second row of 24 steam engines and wipe out a couple of biter nests. Once that’s done and there’s been some mall production is time to ceremoniously destroy the crashed spaceship. The city block will be needed eventually and there’s no need to continue to hand-feed the ship.
Power Poles
A little city management is needed at this time before the next big step. The 50x50 city block is updated to include medium and big power poles. The mediums go around each stone road intersection and then the big poles can supply power from each intersection. The beauty of Nilaus’s city block is that they are set up for perfect roboport coverage and power supply and leaves just enough space for each factory.

Landfill
The last bit of management that I do is make sure that I have radars evenly spread out, with 4 city blocks between each one for full coverage. This allows me to keep an eye on biter nests at the edge of my pollution radius. I also add landfill production to the stone block, it’s expensive to produce so it’s good to start it early
